Historic Security Council

The Historical Security Council assumes the responsibilities of the Security Council, but instead of discussing present day issues, the Council debates on the historical situations that have influenced the world and reflects upon the decisions made in the past, especially those with negative consequences. The delegates in the Historical Security Council have the opportunity to come up with different and better solutions to the crises than the ones that were undertaken by the Security Council at that time. The issues are discussed by 15 historically concerned states of that time. The Council’s main function is to maintain international peace and security by taking appropriate measures as outlined by the UN Charter. The Historical Security Council uses and follows the same rules of procedure as the Security Council, which means its permanent members may exercise their veto power while voting on resolutions. Through peaceful negotiations, discussions and debates, the nations of the HSC draft a resolution that not only solves the main issue, but also forms a basis to resolve any further disputes between the concerned nations in the future.

Saudamini Sigdel

Chair

Start a conversation about Dickens, Feminism or practically any current event you can think of with Saudamini and you’ll see for yourself why so many of her friends regard her as an intellectual. Alongside her love for literature (don’t get her started on Hemingway or Jeffery Archer), she loves to write (hello editor-in-chief of the school newspaper) and is a huge foodie – she’s fond of cooking and just as fond of eating. With her penchant for history (she studies it as a subject even though it isn’t offered in school), there really isn’t anyone more suited to lead the historic security council in RBSMUN. While Saudamini (or Minnie, as her friends endearingly call her) may not seem all that expressive at first, don’t mistake her consistently cool expression for disinterest – she’ll be hyperaware of whatever’s happening in committee and will be watching and evaluating you every single step of the way. Don’t think you can get away with blathering on about whatever comes to the top of your head – Saudamini takes her responsibility as chair very seriously and you better be prepared to show that you really know what you’re talking about if you have any intention of winning best delegate. Of course, that’s not to say that Minnie’s all work and no play – she’s a girl who loves to party and is almost always up for a hang out. She wants all her delegates to know that you really shouldn’t hesitate to approach her – she’ll be more than happy to clear any doubts that you may have. With Minnie as your chair, come prepared for three days of intense debate, with plenty of fun in between too!

Apoorva B. Singh

Vice chair

Apoorva Bahadur Singh, also known as Apoo, is a shy yet diligent person. Delegates, you are incredibly lucky to have him as your Vice- Chair. Do not mistake him as a novice debater because of his silence, he is actually a seasoned veteran when it comes to MUNs. A man’s experience is shown by the amount of grey hair on his head, or in Apoo’s case, the experience is seen by the number of pimples on his face. A very good plus point about him would be that he is extremely approachable so, all those delegates who are doing their first MUN, do not be scared to reach out to him. Do not treat Apoo with ease because he is very well researched on the respective topics and will not easily let factual inaccuracies pass in the committee. Delegates, he will help navigate the committee through his mediation and expertise. He is a very hard working person and will make sure this committee will have uninterrupted flows of hot debate. He is an avid gamer, usually on his PS4, and he is updated and stocked on the latest games on the market. He is also a connoisseur of mixed martial arts, practically a ninja. So, delegates who raise unnecessary points of information and points of order in the committee, watch out. All in all, a ninja, debater, cool as a cucumber and an excellent mediator, Apoorva will be the most awesome vice chair. (P.S please raise motions of entertainment and vote on a push up contest).

Reina Shahi

Moderator

While she possesses the ability to mesmerize you with her beautifully gifted voice (which is bound to be entertaining during the Motion of Entertainment), Reina Shahi is also capable of keeping you speechless and strapped to your seat with her rather commanding persona - if you manage to blow her fuse.  As delegates, you should consider yourselves extremely fortunate to have her as your moderator. Her familiarity with the MUN procedures and the fact that she is constantly updated about current global affairs not only qualify her to be a suitable moderator but also make her a viable asset for you delegates to turn to. Aside from being the adorable, sarcastic and amiable person she is, Reina is persistently tenacious in doing what she sets out to do and will hopefully keep you delegates motivated during the sessions. She pretty much epitomizes what all rounded perfectionist should be like, but her pessimistic edge is likely to make you reconsider your decisions. Her undeniable love for music, especially K-Pop, may contrast with her sadistic passion (just kidding) for violent shows like Game of Thrones and Walking dead but she is, nonetheless, a jovial person to be around. Her knack for solving challenges and her sense of humor will definitely charm you and her versatility is definitely going to be an enormous benefit during committee sessions. Reina expects nothing but the best, so if you want to get in her good books, it is necessary to put maximum effort (and if you’ve got any musical talents, it is definitely a boon.)
