Security Council
The United Nation’s Security Council is the principal organ of the United Nations and is tasked with the maintenance of world peace and security. Under the UN Charter, all members of the UN are obligated to comply with the resolutions and command of the Security Council. Formed after World War 2, the council’s first session was held on 17 January 1946 and since then it has assembled periodically to evaluate international security threats including arms control, civil war, terrorism, as well as natural calamities.
The Security Council consists of five permanent members (P5 nations)—China, France, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, and the United States—who all are granted veto power. The council has an additional ten elected members, who serve two-year terms and are not afforded veto power. The UNSC calls upon all parties to settle disputes by peaceful means and recommends terms or methods of conflict resolution. In cases where peaceful negotiation is not effective, the council has the power to resort to imposing sanctions or even authorizing the use of force to maintain or restore international peace and security. Although committees and other UN agencies can put forth suggestions and recommendations, the Security Council is the only UN-body with the authority to issue resolutions that are legally binding upon them.

Hrit Kandel
Chair
My first impression of Hrit was formidable, but incredibly cute. As time went by I realized that while I was undoubtedly correct about the second, the first was a brazen misjudgment on my part. The very epitome of tall, dark and handsome, Hrit is one of the most approachable dais members one could have hoped for. Don’t be fooled by his brooding demeanor and quiet nature, underneath the hard exterior lies a fun loving guy with killer dance moves and a laugh so contagious, no-one can escape it. Make an effort to converse with him a little, and you will not only find an extremely helpful and honest mentor, but also a very good friend. His aptitude in academics and the high standards he's set for him self exemplifies his hardworking nature. There is nothing Hrit values more than a good work ethic and an effort to deliver best possible results for the tasks at hand. A polished debater with all the facts on his fingertips, a knack for zeroing in on false information and a calm and collected demeanor, your Chair will be the dais member to go to if you need some help with your research or have any queries about the topic. He'll try his level best (and he's good at everything) to help you and to make your MUN journey a little more fruitful and the committee a little more productive than initially anticipated. Shy, awkward and adorable, your chair may not be the most flamboyant, but in his own little ways, he’ll charm his way into your heart making him one of the things you’ll miss most about RBSMUN 2016.
Pranay K. Shrestha
Vice chair
One can always depend on Pranay Krishna Shrestha when in need. He is the type of person that, if you ask for help, won't ask why but he'll ask when. Helpful and charming, he has his way with words and gets things done. A gamer, Pranay plays the ever famous game Defense of the Ancients (DotA), and is pretty good at it. In his quest to become a surgeon, Pranay is a pure science student and hopes to, one day, accomplish his childhood dream of getting to "cut things up for a living".
A competitive debater, with merits to back that up, he will know when you make a mistake and capitalize on that. Being someone with ample MUN experience, he is comfortable with the procedures and protocols and will be more than willing to guide delegates throughout the conference. Always enthusiastic and full of energy, he will for sure make the Security Council lively and fun for everyone.
Delegates, having Pranay as one of your dais members will not only make your MUN experience filled with fun and entertainment, but it'll be equally fruitful and something you will remember for a long time to come.
Suniva Chitrakar
Moderator
Often misunderstood to be rather tough and hard to approach, Suniva is an easy going person who thinks rationally rather than emotionally. When usually emotionless, she appears to be having an expression on the borderline of disgust, but she’s probably making up jokes that would make her friends sigh with disappointment. She is rather reserved at first and is never overly demonstrative of her affection. But as you get to know her, she’ll never fail to disappoint you with her unexpected puns and over the top facial expressions. Suniva likes all kinds of music (classical, grunge, k-pop- the list goes on). She loves art and making art too (and hates it when her friends mention her surname when talking about art). She is easily amused by everything, especially when in heated situations such as debating, but is also easily disgusted by most things. She is imaginative yet decisive, and is amazingly curious, but she prefers not to squander her energy on socializing. She lives by glaring contradictions that nonetheless make perfect sense- at least from her purely rational perspective. She can be the most starry-eyed idealist and the bitterest of cynics, a seemingly impossible conflict. You can be assured that she’ll help you out when facing any difficulties in MUN but you can also be assured that she’ll be judging every small move you make in the committee, including how well versed you are with the topic at hand. Her sarcastic remarks and harsh humor will keep the committee entertained as she moderates the topics. Having participated in several MUNs, she will moderate the committee so that it flows smoothly and is interesting for everyone present.
