The World Trade Organization (WTO) is an intergovernmental organization dealing with the global rules of trade between nations. It was created with the purpose to make trade flow smoothly, freely, fairly, predictably and is based on arrangements that have been negotiated and signed by almost all trading nations in the world. The WTO is also a forum where member countries can negotiate trade agreements, settle their trade disputes and work towards improving trade relations as well as their respective country economies.

Established on January 1st 1995, the WTO is the successor to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and has 161 members. This association cooperates closely with the International Momentary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank with the objective to advance coherence in global economic policy-building. Since 117 out of its 161 member countries are developing or least developed nations, the organization gives them extra attention and all WTO agreements comprise of special provisions for them to expand and improve their trade and economic capacities. The organization has two basic principles which state not to discriminate or differentiate between diverse trading partners and secondly, ensure the same treatment for foreign goods as well as national ones. All actions taken by the WTO are consensus based- decided via voting where each country has equal power- and it is the most important global organ in the trade and economic sectors.

Aabhaas Malla

Chair

If eye-candy is what you’re craving this MUN, luck is on your side, because your Chair is exactly that. With a smirk that’ll make you swoon and an ability to charm his way into everyone’s hearts, Aabhaas will definitely be a favourite for the ladies. Exceedingly good looks aside, Aabhaas isn't your typical chair. He doesn't engage in loud screaming matches and won’t be impressed by just your skills at verbal battle. As a quiet and calculative person himself, the one skill he wants to see in all his delegates is tact, and an ability to resolve situations in the most diplomatic way possible.

Initially perceived as a little intimidating and standoffish by most, your chair is a very blunt character and he makes his thoughts about everything abundantly clear from the very beginning. Although it may come off as a bit rude at times, you will learn to like this quality over time. He is nothing but honest about the feedback he gives, and that’s a quality every good mentor must possess. His style of debate, and the committee he's chairing both require delegates to be very factually accurate with their information, and his knowledge of the topics as a commerce student ensures that any factual inaccuracies on part of the delegates will be identified and scrutinized.

As he steps out of his role as a Chair though, delegates can find a very good friend in him. He has an array of interests ranging from television shows to tennis, and his taste in music is so vast you’re bound to find some common ground. Witty, sarcastic, very prone to make jokes at your expense, and a very good conversationalist (when he's not complimenting himself that is), he, along with your vice chair and moderator are bound to make up a Dais that you'll remember long after MUN 2016 has passed.

Yash Poddar

Vice chair

Your vice chair this year is a true definition of tall and dark but not handsome. JK. One of the first things you'd notice about him, is his ear to ear smile complemented by his oh so famous dimple. But don't let this cute face fool you, delegates. With six best delegate awards at hand and equally rigorous practice at national and international MUNs, he is an exceptional debater who expects you all to be the same. Be prepared to feel dumb as he talks about world issues and solutions to crises you've never even heard about. While his seriousness during a formal session might overwhelm you, you can always count on him for a good laugh during a motion for entertainment whether it be by his unsuccessful attempt to imitate one of the teachers or by singing Firework by Katy Perry in his very "easy on the ear" voice. Your very "nakkale" vice chair might be spotted fixing his hair in front of every reflective surface he walks by but his "nakkale" side does have an upside to it (guys be sure to take fashion tips from him). Being the computer fanatic that he is, he likes to be known as the programmer of "SmartMUN" which will hopefully be incorporated in RBSMUN this year. With such a cheery and an approachable person as a dais member the delegates of WTO are sure to have the best MUN experience ever.

Arhant Shrestha

Moderator

Arhant, with his unparalleled flair and panache, is sure to make a lasting impression. He has a unique style, in everything from his fashion choices (just take a look at his Instagram profile) to his humour and his many facial expressions. His interests are varied and eclectic (including art, anime, K-Pop, and photography, among others), and he has that rare ability to click with just about everybody. His outgoing nature makes him super approachable, so you need have no qualms about reaching out to him about anything before or during the course of the conference. Arhant is an avid reader (his room which sort of resembles a small library is testimony to that), and is always updated about current events across the world. Be assured that he will come to committee well-versed on the topic, and will be analyzing just how thorough your understanding is and how well you represent the government you’ve been assigned. And he won’t hesitate to call you out if he notices discrepancies in your arguments or if you step out of bounds. Having participated in several MUNs and with a couple of awards under his belt, Arhant will guide and moderate the committee so that it flows smoothly and is interesting for all delegates. With his ultra fun, exuberant presence, you can be assured that there won’t be too many dull moments. And he will always be happy to supply you with constructive criticism or encouragement so that you can perform to the best of your abilities. Whether you want his help or want to get some selfies during breaks, Hants will be pleasantly accommodating. And just know that even if you do snag the best-dressed title, Arhant will quite likely be the real winner.
